Love her or hate her, Sarah Palin cannot be ignored. From the moment she was asked to become a part of the John McCain campaign for the presidency in 2008, Sarah Palin has not been out of the spotlight for a moment. She has been mocked for her relaxed "ordinary person" manner of speech and way of life. Her education, which is fairly typical of many Americans, is a particularly sore point. It is a subject of sneers and condescension. She has been snidely ridiculed for her choice to give birth to a baby with Down Syndrome, as well as her daughter's teenage pregnancy.
In spite of these difficulties, her comments in a social media (Facebook) rock the world and even the President of the United States, Barack Obama, appears unable to restrain himself from getting into the mix. She coined the term "death panels" that inspired a revolution in the activist movement among the ordinary people of this country. Sarah Palin is a fearless, determined woman who has been severely underestimated by the talking heads in the media!
After a review of the education of former presidents, we find that Sarah Palin has more education than George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and Grover Cleveland. All these were American presidents who did not benefit from a college education. George Washington had a surveyors certificate from William and Mary College. I am not certain how much help the surveyors certificate gave Washington during the Revolutionary War or during his two terms as president. Washington and Lincoln felt the lack of their formal education but as a result they were life long learners. This lack in formal education contributed to their understanding of the world and gave them a hunger for knowledge that aided in their rise to the heights of greatness.
Sarah Palin came into the McCain campaign as the underdog. She is not a millionaire and for this alone the snobs would never like her! It was open season on a woman who could never compete in the world the media insiders and elites live. And still these people underestimated her appeal to the ordinary people of the world. Sarah Palin appeals to ordinary people because she is someone you can trust. Americans are sick and tired of politicians and leaders who talk out of both sides of their mouths. Most of these same politicians on both sides of the aisle have no idea that an underground revolution is taking root among the American people. The same people who put all of them in office can and will fire them if changes are not forthcoming.
Sarah Palin is a lodestone for regular people who are worried and afraid of the direction our country is taking. The change so widely touted during the presidential campaign is not the change most of the people thought would be forthcoming.
At the moment the release of her book, Going Rogue, is a tool to set the record straight and get a lot of things off of her chest. Her popularity is so great that a mirror image book detailing her failures and missteps called Going Rouge has been published in the wake of her own book.
The book tour will give her a little town bronze and accustom her to thinking on her feet. The interviews will tighten her presentation and give her a sharp cutting edge to her image. In spite of popular opinion, Sara Palin is a quick study and she in working in a learning curve right now. Her determination will take her wherever she decides to go.
She will raise the funds she needs to pay off her legal fees incurred by bogus ethics violation complaints that impeded her ability to serve out her term as Alaska's governor. When she makes her decision about her political future, Sarah Palin will make that decision on her own terms. Although, she has her many detractors, the Sarah Watchers are going to have an interesting few years!

Ralph, my reason for bringing up the education issue is that it is not necessary to have Ivy League education to be president. Most insiders and elites may think so but it is not necessary. Political savvy can be learned and so far our current president has pretty much fulfilled the promise that his lack of experience foretold. Life experiences count for something and so do the regular ordinary people in America. Thank you for your comments.
She's keeper. She is so popular because she is basically one of us. She not the rich, liberal educated snooty type, but a fun loving, simple person a hunter, loves fishing, soccer-mom, who has great Christian values. These are pretty much of what liberals do not like, and have been fighting for.
Heck, she reminds me so much of some of my family, that it terrific.
And I can't believe all of the hate for her personnally. We don't hate Obama, but rather his polices. The liberals, theat just hate and want to destroy. It just make me sick how they dare to treat her. The way they treat her is the way they will start treating all conservatives and Christians in the future, mark my words.
For the education, she has common sense, and that is why they have advisors. One do not has to be all knowing, but to have a platform and/or cause.
Besides when we hear of education, it has to be the Ivy League liberal kind of education or it not good enogh. To me these guys are over educated and need to get a real job in the real world like you and me.

Thank you, eovery. Personally, I am sick of the snotty comments written about Sarah Palin. She is a hard working woman who loves her family, God, and has made a difference in her world. She may not have the social experience and travel of everyone currently popular in the top tier but she is learning fast. She has been severely underestimated and that will be seen soon enough!
Outstanding hub. I have no idea what Sarah Palin's political future might be but she's hard not to like. One of our biggest present day problem of our politicians is they are almost all lawyers, hence 2000+ page bills loaded with trickery.

I just believe that she has received a really raw deal in the media and I find it disgusting that supposedly intelligent people are able to allow their political leanings over rule their common sense. thanks for commenting.

The liberal elitist like Deeds are afraid of Palin. That's why they can't stand to have a common person who is popular and a populist and displays some common sense.
I have reservations about her as President , however I do like the down home values she represents . And whether the left leaning amongst us want to admit it or not many here in the USA like it.And I love the fact the more the left go after her the more they bolster her popularity.

For those concerned about any "gaps" Sarah Palin might have in her qualifications to run the country, it's clear she's busy filling those right up as we speak. Sean Hannity told her a while back that she needed to update her frame of reference--so that she understands why things happen the way they happen, etc.--but went on to say that she IS doing just that and has hired people in the know to teach her.
Postgraduate work in political science via private tutors, in other words.

I told my husband the day she resigned as Governor of Alaska that the world had better watch out for Sarah! Her father had it right. She was retreating and regrouping! She is also acquiring a fortune in the old fashioned way....she is earning it. When she gets her ducks in a row she is going to really blow them out. I say...YOU GO SARAH!

I can understand her appeal but the "scary" thing about Sarah Palin, to me, is her ability to retain that appeal. Supporters tend to ignore her abundant shortcomings because she is just a regular "gal"... one of the people, not one of those politicians from Washington. Its as if they wear blinders, an almost cult-like attraction. They defend anything she does or says no matter how wrong. She is a compelling speaker but lacks any substance. In her speeches she uses catchy phrases (sound bytes) and greatly distorts facts to play the crowd. She, in essence, likes yelling fire in a crowded theatre and playing to people's fear in order to elicite a fanatic mob response from her audience. Its called feeding red meat, a tactic that well serves her purpose. As to her education, it is more than adequate for being town mayor or short-term governor of a small population. Its wholly inadequate to address the complexities of governing a modern nation, especially the most powerful with the largest economy. Can you actually imagine her negotiating a treaty with a Vladymir Putin or discussing international monetary policy at the G8 Summit. Achieving an advanced degree demonstrates an ability to learn, the ability to set, meet, and complete goals, as well as the capacity to understand new concepts. Neither George Washington or Grover Cleveland would be able to function within the confines of today's world without an extensive formal education. You cannot be taught these things while you are on a book tour. It takes years to obtain not just the knowledge but the methodology to apply that knowledge. Remember too, an education can't replace ignorance and lack of understanding. BUT lack of a PHD doesn't preclude the making of a decent living. Sarah Palin has now become a wealthy, political, book writing talking head and just like Beck, Limbaugh and the rest, she's laughing all the way to the bank. So no one should feel sorry for poor, media-abused, Sarah. She and her family are milking celebrity for all its worth. Take your sunglasses off and see the light. Obviously you really like Sarah Palin so I hope my opinion has not offended you. Thank you for allowing me to comment.
Burning Bush, you have not offended me. I do like Sarah Palin, but I do not follow her every move. I do not even know if I would vote for her at the moment. I need much more information than I now have. However, I do feel that she got a raw deal during the previous presidential election. She was treated in a way that no other woman candidate (or male candidate) has been treated. She was insulted in every way and the media went out to get her simply because she is a conservative woman. It gave me joy to see her success in picking candidates for the recent election... and watching most of them win!
Sorry to comment so late in the game, and Ms Palin is now fairly out of the picture for the most part, other than a little showboating every now and then.
I'm one of those people that are scared by Ms Palin. I believe that under all that makeup is a hawk just waiting to pounce. She would take us to war just to prove that she can't be cowed.
As far as the media's treatment of Ms Palin, don't be so touchy. Half the media attack anybody and anything while the other half wait their turn.

She is beautiful, smart, educated, successful, likeable, and down to earth, with a family and good-looking husband. When the libs. saw that, they immediately started spreading hate and saying she is dumb, ect. Most people see with their ears, not with their eyes. If they hear something negative they immediately take it in and ignore facts. Liberals do not come close to Palin. Hillary looks like a pathetic wife who is afraid of her cheating husband by comparison, and that is one of the things that set off the democrat claws and fangs.

Tina Fey would be a better candidate. Sarah would make a good model for a toothpaste ad or commercial. She's attractive and certainly not dumb. But she doesn't have the knowledge needed for a national office. Bringing up the lack of college educations of 18th and 19th century presidents who lived when very few people went to college doesn't prove much. I think all 20th century presidents except for Harry Truman (whose hobby was studying history) were college graduates. I've seen no signs that Palin is interested in studying history or government. In my opinion she's not remotely qualified to be president. And what's more she's tearing the GOP apart with her extreme views. She might make a passably good candidate for the House or Senate from Alaska.
